Captain MS Dhoni surpasses Azharuddin in Johannesburg ODI

MS Dhoni yesterday surpassed former batsman Mohammad Azharuddin as India's highest ru scorer as captain in One Day Internationals.

Dhoni, who made 65 in a losing cause for India against South Africa in the first ODI at Wanderers Stadium on Thursday (December 5), moved ahead of Azharuddin when he was on 27.

India lost the match by 141 runs while chasing 359. The 32-year old wicketkeeper-batsman has led India in 152 ODIs and has now scored 5,278 runs as skipper.

Azharuddin, as a leader in 174
matches, had tallied 5,239. Overall, Dhoni is the fifth best in the world. The leader is former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who amassed 8,497 runs in 230 matches.
