The secret of Dhoni's success in the final over of the match was changing his bat. A "heavy bat" helped the captain to blitz 6, 4 and 6 to seal victory by 1 wicket. Just before the start of the 50th and last over of the match, Dhoni asked for a new willow. In came the substitute fielders with a set of bats. Dhoni check a couple of them and settled with a "heavy" piece of wood.
First ball of the final over from Shamida Eranga was bowled a bit wide of offside. He could not make contact. But the next three made enough contact to give him 16 runs and the trophy to India.
"I went with a heavy bat, the weight was perfect for slogging," said Dhoni after the match. He remained unbeaten on 45 and also won the Man- of-the-match award for his heroics. India successfully chased down 202 with 1 wicket and 2 balls to spare. Ishant Sharma was the last
batsman with Dhoni.
"I knew I could look forward to getting the 15 runs in the last over as Shaminda Eranga was an
inexperienced bowler and my instinct worked today," Dhoni added.
