Kohli's readiness to lead India heats up debate

India's Virat Kohli has
added fuel to the existing debate on BCCI's decision to appoint
different captains for all the three formats of the game as he
expressed his readiness in leading Team India.

A couple of days ago, BCCI had decided to have
three different captains for three formats after
India's ouster from World T20 and the recent
low in Indian cricket, as the team has not lived
up to its expectations after the World Cup
triumph in 2011.

Having led the U-19 side to its first T20 World
Cup title in 2008, Virat Kohli was an unanimous
choice. Though BCCI has not named him as the
ODI captain yet, there were rumours about BCCI
planning to appoint Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina for
ODIs and T20Is while Dhoni can be retained as Test captain.

Virat Kohli, during an interview with TOI,has
said he is ready to lead the side, if offered. "I too have heard the
chatter about captaincy,
but I am not thinking about it right now. If and
when it comes, I'll be ready for it. As of now, I'd
rather concentrate on my game," Kohli told TOI. Since Dhoni's
selection policy and leadership
qualities have been under the scanner especially
after the dismal show in Sri Lanka, consistent
Virat Kohli was the immediate choice, as BCCI
feels Kohli can be groomed to be a captain in future.

Now, with Virat Kohli's comment on captaincy
has added fuel to the existing debate as Dhoni's
leadership is under scanner. It remains to be seen if Virat Kohli, who is
currently enjoying the form of his life will be
rushed into captaincy, as the young guy can
work on the game for the next few years
before being named the captain.
