Born on this day were:
Syed Wazir Ali (1903-50), Indian batsman who represented India in all its first seven Tests and who was the elder brother of Nazir Ali;
Anandji Dossa (1915-), famous Indian statistician and scorer in whose honour the Cricketer Club of India, Mumbai has named a reference library;
Michael John 'Mike' Procter (1946-), South African all-rounder who is considered one of the greatest of all time and who later became an ICC match referee (He took three hat-tricks in County Championship matches and in 1970-71 became the last of only three players – CB Fry and Don Bradman being the other two – to score a century in six consecutive first-class innings);
Abdul Qadir (1955-), Pakistani leg-spinner whose 9 for 56 against England at Lahore is still the best bowling analysis in an innings by a Pakistani bowler;
Patrick Patterson (1961-), West Indian pace bowler, and
Nathan Astle (1971-), New Zealand batsman whose 222 from 168 balls against England at Christchurch in 2002 is the fastest double hundred (off 153 balls) in Tests in terms of balls faced.
In 1947 playing for the champion county against The Rest, Denis Compton completed his greatest summer by scoring 246 for Middlesex at The Oval. It was his 18th century of the season, a world record that still stands.
In 1988 Australia wicket-keeper Ian Healey made his Test debut against Pakistan in the first Test at Karachi. He took one catch and scored 26 and 21 in a match which Australia lost by an innings and 188 runs.
In 2003 Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 42 runs at Lahore in the third ODI to register their 300th win in a ODI.
