History of March 22

In 1992 South Africa needed 22 off 13 balls to beat England at Sydney in the World Cup semi-final when rain stopped play. When play resumed after ten minutes South Africa needed 21 off one ball. This was the worst example of the lop-sided rain rule and hastened the demise of this scheme. England qualified for their third World Cup final in the last four. Three days later, they lost their third World Cup final in the last four.

In 1995 Sri Lanka drew the second Test against New Zealand at Dunedin to win their first Test-series victory overseas, at the 16th attempt.

In 2001 Harbhajan Singh took 32 wickets at the end of the three Test series against Australia at Chennai – the highest by an Indian bowler in a three Test series. India beat Australia 2-1 in what was an unforgettable series.
